Hi,
Now that we have finished up the Earth Science Unit, we’ll make some connections between what you have learned in your Environmental Projects and our next unit (which is Life Science). Here’s what you did in class today:
- I (actually my sub since I was home with Vince), returned your Earth Science Tests and you updated your grades. Way-2-go on the tests!!
- You did part one of the Goldfish Adaptations Experiment. Today was about planning…you’ll actually experiment during our next class..should be fun.
- You turned in your Environmental Issue Projects in some form or another. I look forward to viewing them & learning lots from your research.
Homework: Find a few (maybe around 10 or so?) digital photos of yourself, your friends, family, pets, interests, etc and put them on a file in your jump-drive for class on Friday (Monday after Spring Break for B-Day). We are going to the computer lab to practice using a presentation tool. You’ll need your photos to participate in the lesson.
Whew-that’s it for now.

Greetings,
Today is our last day of new material before your Earth Science test. Here’s what we did.
- You updated your grade logs with your Earthquake quiz scores. If you are filling out a Redo Contract please do so ASAP.
- You received your Environmental Project Rough Drafts back.
- We did a crayon Rock Cycle lab
Homework: You will receive a study guide for your test during our next class. In the meantime, continue to improve your Environmental Projects as they are due next week.
Peace,
Mr. R

Hi,
Here’s what we did in class today:
- You had some work time to finish all of your overlapping items. You worked on Ring of Fire, your vocabulary frames, and your earthquake comprehension inventory.
- You did a jigsaw activity to study moment magnitude, earthquake damage, and building safety a bit more in depth.
- You will have a quiz on your National Geographic Earthquake sheet (you filled this out up in the media center) during our next class.
- Your Environmental Issue Project rough draft/scripts are due next class as well.
Peace,
Mr. R

Hi,
In light of recent events around the world, we are dedicating the next couple of days of our Earth Science unit to earthquakes.
We visited the National Geographic Earthquake website today. (If you were unable to finish your hand-out, be sure to finish at home.) This information will serve as your background knowledge for our next two labs.
You should be working on your Environmental Issue Projects as well. The rough drafts/scripts are due on March 10th/11th.
Peace,
Mr. R

Greetings,
We are currently working towards the yellow learning target. Part of it is about volcanos. Here’s what we did in class:
- Project Reminders…Your environmental project rough drafts & scripts are due on March 10th/11th.
- You did a viscosity lab in class and should look at the National Geographic Volcano link (on Edline) to complete your homework before next class.

Mr. R

Hi,
Fallen into any rings of fire lately?
Today we reviewed how the tectonic plates are able to move. (How did you do?)
We also began a mapping activity and watched “Ring of Fire.”
Homework: Your research notes and sources are due next class. I’ll look them over and give them back to you. We are also having a quiz on the different types of boundaries between the tectonic plates.
Peace,
Mr. R

Greetings,
You got to see inside of your mystery boxes today-how awesome was that??
Then we talked about your upcoming Environmental Issue Project. The first item that you will turn in is your completed contract which is due the next time we meet.
To summarize: You should pick your group, your issue, and the type of project that you wish to do. Indicate these on your green contract and bring it back with you to your next class.
If you wish to get started on your project, there are rubrics (guidelines) for each one in the folder on Edline.
Happy Long Weekend, Valentine’s Day, ETC……,
Mr. R

Greetings,
We continued our work with the Theory of Sea-Floor Spreading by testing your underwater vision. After a tour of the Google Earth 5′s awesome underwater features, you used super-advanced sonar sticks to try to guess what is inside of your mystery box.
Do you know what your item is yet? If not, we’ll draw a profile view next class to see if that helps you out with your guess.
There is a quiz next time on the Theory of Continental Drift and the Theory of Sea-Floor Spreading. Be sure to review your two graphic organizers that you filled out during class.
Peace,
Mr. R

How can the sea-floor move??
We looked at part 2 of a three part series of theories (that totally rhymes) to see if Alfred Wegener may have been on to something all of those years ago.
Here’s what we did in class:
- Layers of the Earth quiz
- We reviewed the Theory of Continental Drift
- You filled out a graphic organizer about the Theory of Sea-Floor Spreading
- We watched a couple of video clips about your reading.
There is no homework.
CU,
Mr. R

hi,
I have been working on a new blog, so I haven’t been posting, but I will continue to use this site during our Earth Science Unit (until the new, improved version is ready to go).
Peace,
Mr. R
